The Struggle of Lilly

Lilly is a working Mom of two. She was serving as a Marketing Manager when the pandemic hit the world.

The first few weeks were chaos when she couldn't understand what she needed to do to achieve her lost work-life balance.

Later, after the nerve-shattering work-from-home weeks started to shift to a hybrid work environment, where she could spend some hours working at home while some more hours at her office, she started liking the new approach.

Impacts of Hybrid Environment

It was a breather for Lilly to switch to a hybrid work environment. A hybrid work environment, which started as an experiment at her company, had considerable impacts on productivity.

In fact, her company is now brainstorming to stick to it in the future. These were the little tips that helped Lilly sail through:

Tips to Boost Productivity

Now we know that a hybrid work environment helped boost Lilly's productivity; the question is, how?

She adopted the following tips:

1. Keep the Environment Clean

Before the shift to the hybrid work environment, Lilly never paid heed to where she had

put the green scarf she wore yesterday.

She often struggled to find out a clean dress to look presentable on her laptop screen. Soon it started bothering her, so she started giving time to cleaning her surroundings. That saved her time.

2. Set Rules for the Team

Lilly had many distractions at home, especially when one of her babies started crying in the background.

She then started setting milestones and deadlines instead of working hours. She would work with her team to achieve weekly targets and not only complete working hours.

This helped the team in their work/life balance and boosted their productivity.

3. Organize the Workplace

Which of the environments below will help you more in your productivity?

A messy desk with an empty bowl of cereal and a knife to cut the vegetables.

OR

A clean desk with your essential files on the right side and laptop on the left corner of the desk

The latter one, right? Go and organize your workplace for a productivity boost, just like Lilly did.

4. Promote Two-Way Communication

Lilly would stay stuck when there were no acknowledgment emails from her bosses.

She stayed in frustrating confusion on whether her boss read that email or he overall missed it in the flood of other emails.

In this case, two-way communication was absent.

In one of her virtual meetings, she enlightened the team about the importance of feedback.

She encouraged her peers to leave feedback, either positive, negative, or neutral.

5. Build trust

A significant and influential factor for good teamwork is trust.

In a hybrid work environment, the teammates should learn to trust each other.

This trust can be fostered among them by assigning them a group task and promoting communication between them.

Lilly adopted this approach while working on a branding campaign for her new office.

The team worked closely with each other, where Lilly set team rewards for different milestones such as completing signage tasks; she treated her team with a lunch.

6. Encourage and recognize

According to human psychology, humans seek acknowledgment.

Employees should be encouraged and appreciated for their work. It boosted Lilly’s productivity develops a dopamine rush in her, motivating her to work more productively.

What Lilly did to foster trust among her team worked for the needed dopamine rush.

7. Clear the Task Objectives

A clear set of objectives are essential to understand a task.

Lilly made sure that she did not just give the time for a zoom meeting. She always told her team beforehand what that meeting is about.

This way, her team members could prepare themselves for the upcoming topic and participate more during the session.

8. Set Goals.

In a hybrid working environment setting goals and milestones are extremely important.

People cannot work 9-5 with all the distractions present in home comfort, so Lilly started giving task-based targets to her team.

This way, the team members worked better on their assignments with the flexibility that boosted their productivity.

9. Automate Processes

In a hybrid environment, everyone should utilize the technology around them.

Lilly, too, started marking meetings in a Google calendar instead of writing them down.

The Google calendar even notified her before her meeting. Before that, she would have ignored it after writing down the meeting time in her small brown notebook due to having too much on her plate.

Final Words

The concept of a hybrid work environment is still relatively new to us. Humans are naturally scared of trying new things. Still, you cannot grow without taking risks and trying new things.

If you still haven’t tried a hybrid work environment, then what are you waiting for? Give it a try.
